Cabins or small houses are becoming a really popular option here in New Zealand. They are known for their affordability and practicality, so it’s really no wonder that many people are looking to buy a cabin or small house as a viable living option.

Environmentally conscious, cabins allow for minimalist living and are a great solution for those that don’t want or need a huge house.

People are loving cabin living for a number of reasons. Of course, it’s more affordable to buy a cabin than a standard build, but there are heaps of other benefits too. How do we do that? Well, let’s explore the journey we took with Jenny to create the perfect cabin for her space.

Jenny’s Story

Jenny was wanting to build a small home. But, she had some really specific requirements. The property where she was looking to situate the cabin has absolutely spectacular views, so she really wanted to maximise the enjoyment of that view from the cabin.

After a discussion with our architect and build team, we raised the stud height of the cabin to install taller windows and a large stacker door. This created an instant visual frame to showcase the view from inside the space.

She also chose to make some design personalisation on the interior and exterior. Inside, she chose a stunning black and white interior, allowing her views to bring a pop of colour to the interior of the home. Outside, Jenny chose a striking combination of black Colorsteel vertical cladding and James Hardie board and batten for a wood-look finish.
